Estate Planning

After a change in a family situation, it is usually a good idea to review your personal will, life insurance beneficiaries, and other legal documents to make necessary adjustments.

Whether you are young or old, it is important to have a last will and testament to help you to manage and secure your family's financial future.  If you have young children, it is essential!  Avoid bank hold on your funds.  Avoid the expense of a protracted probate.  Establish testamentary trusts to provide for elderly parents or young children.  Designate the person who will care for your children if you meet an untimely death.

In addition to a last will and testament, you should also have a durable power of attorney so your financial affairs can be managed if you are unable to do so.  A medical power of attorney and a physician's directive are also recommended to give guidance to those who will make medical decisions on your behalf.  With the improvements to medical care, people live longer, but the quality of life can be in jeopardy if you do not plan ahead.
