 Texas Child Protective Services

If you are being investigated by the Texas Child Protective Service (CPS) and need an attorney who has experience with family protection laws, call a family law specialist attorney at The Guerra Law Firm.

Child Protective Services is charged with investigating reports of child abuse and neglect, and they have the authority to remove a child from a parent's custody when they believe that the child is in danger.  In most circumstances, CPS is required to file a petition with the Court prior to removing a child from the home, and the child is placed in temporary foster care.  Oftentimes, the CPS investigator will recommend family services to remedy problems in the child's home.  However, if the CPS investigator believes that the problem cannot be remedied, they may file a petition to terminate the parental rights of the child' parents, and to place the child for adoption.  In addition, the CPS investigator will contact the local law enforcement agency to ask that criminal charges be filed against a person who has harmed a child.

While it is normally appropriate to cooperate with the CPS investigators, it is vitally important to contact an attorney at the beginning of the investigation to make sure that your rights are protected throughout the CPS investigation process.

Call an experienced family protection lawyer to protect your rights and to help you deal with CPS.  Call The Guerra Law Firm in Carrollton, Texas, today!
